Editing and Proofreading
I am a relentless editor of my own work, and decades of checking technical reports, correspondence and specifications in my engineering career has taught me the value of meticulous checking and revision.
Editing is about making prose crisp and clear, culling out needless words, favouring the active voice over the passive, and improving readability. Proofreading is about eliminating typos and grammatical errors, the flies in the narrative ointment.
Ghostwriting
For those with a story to tell but without the time and/or skill to write to a professional standard, hiring a ghost writer is an ideal solution. This is more common than generally known. A key requirement is for the work to be written in the subject’s own voice. Whether the subject is flippant and funny or needs a manifesto for their plan of world domination, their narrative voice needs to inhabit every page.
A ghostwriter remains invisible to the reader and is typically not credited to the work, hence it being a lesser-known craft, and hence the name.
In-person interviews and careful note-taking would be critical to a successful outcome. My writing background suits me to ghostwriting and I would relish the opportunity to take on such a task.
